Materials

FKM, which stands for Fluoroelastomer, is a synthetic fluorocarbon-based elastomer known for its exceptional chemical, thermal and ageing resistance. These properties make it ideal for applications in harsh environments where long life and reliability is required.

Technical characteristics

  • Temperature range: -30 °C to +250 °C, with some specific grades down to -40°C
  • Very high compatibility with all types of fuels.
  • High resistance to solvents, oils, acids and bases, both organic and inorganic.
  • Low gas permeability.
  • Excellent flame resistance.

NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) is a synthetic elastomer composed of acrylonitrile and butadiene copolymers. It is well known for its excellent resistance to mineral oils, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and various chemicals, making it widely used in industrial and automotive environments.

Technical Characteristics

  • Operating temperature: from –25 °C to +120 °C, with peaks up to +150 °C for special formulations.
  • Good resistance to mineral oils, aliphatic fuels, greases, and hydraulic fluids (type H).
  • Poor resistance to weathering, ozone, and UV radiation.
  • Good mechanical properties and abrasion resistance.

HNBR is a hydrogenated version of NBR rubber, obtained by selectively saturating the double bonds in the butadiene component. This process significantly improves resistance to heat, ozone, and chemicals, making it suitable for highly demanding environments. Excellent abrasion resistance and good resistance to permanent deformation

  • Operating temperature: from –40 °C to +150 °C, with short peaks up to +180 °C.
  • Excellent resistance to ozone, weathering, and heat.

VMQ (Vinyl Methyl Silicone) rubber is a silicone elastomer known for its wide thermal window of use and excellent weathering, ozone and UV resistance. It is widely used in applications requiring thermal stability and flexibility. Used wherever high heat resistance and at the same time excellent elasticity at low temperatures is required.

  • Use temperature: -60 °C to +250 °C, with peaks up to +300 °C.
  • Very good resistance in water and aqueous solutions, vegetable and animal oils, glycols.
  • Good resistance to motor oils, aliphatic fuels, glycol-based brake fluids, highly flammable hydraulic fluids of the HFD-R and HFD-S group, high molecular weight chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons.

ACM (Polyacrylate Rubber) is an elastomer based on acrylic esters, designed to offer high resistance to hot oils and oxidation. It is favored where thermal stability and resistance to lubricants are critical requirements.

  • Excellent resistance to mineral and synthetic oils at high temperatures.
  • Poor resistance to moisture, acids, and oxygenated fuels.
  • Limited elasticity at low temperatures.

AEM (Ethylene Acrylic Rubber) is a copolymer of ethylene and methyl acrylate, often formulated with a third component for vulcanization. Compared to ACM, it provides better low-temperature flexibility while maintaining good heat and oil resistance.

FVMQ (Fluorosilicone Rubber) is an elastomer that combines the properties of silicone with enhanced chemical resistance, particularly to lubricating oils and fuels.

It is used in applications requiring resistance to low temperatures and aggressive fluids.

Better resistance to fuels, solvents and apolar oils, and low temperature properties than VMQ.

  • Good resistance to aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, mineral oils, ozone and UV radiation.
  • Fair resistance in petrols.

EPDM (Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer) is a widely used synthetic elastomer due to its excellent resistance to weathering, ozone, steam and heat. Its properties make it ideal for outdoor applications and for components requiring electrical insulation and durability.

CR rubber, also known as Neoprene, is an elastomer with a good balance of mechanical properties, chemical and weather resistance. It is one of the most versatile synthetic rubbers and is used in a wide range of industries.

  • Good resistance to water, aqueous solutions, paraffinic mineral oils and refrigerants.
  • Excellent outdoor behaviour due to ozone, ageing and flame resistance (self-extinguishing).

Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) is a synthetic elastomer used mainly for its good mechanical properties, low cost and wear stability. Despite limited chemical resistance, it is popular in applications where prolonged exposure to aggressive agents is not required.

  • Good insulating power (in well-formulated compounds).
